The Actor's Class

The Actors Class is a course designed to give actors a specific focus on some of the fundamentals of acting. Over the four sessions you will work both individually and alongside other actors. Our aim is to help you develop an approach to four important areas of acting.

Improvisation

A crucial element of performance is the ability to improvise, to think and react on your feet in a way that captivates the audience. The classes will focus on improvisation in a range of ways; looking at generosity in performance, sharing and offering ideas, confidence in your own creativity, and techniques that can be employed to instantly create highly engaging pieces of drama.

Monologue

Whether for audition or performance the monologue offers the opportunity for an actor to show their interpretation of a script and a character. We will look at the choices you make when dealing with the text and developing your character. The skill to engage with the audience as an individual is something the course covers because it is such a vital aspect of working as an actor.

Duologue / Group Piece

Working with other actors is often the best way to progress. By examining the decisions made when preparing and rehearsing with others, we will find the way to achieve our collective best in performance. Through direction, the performance of work and discussion during the classes we will learn about how to successfully come to an understanding with fellow performers.

Audition Techniques

Develop a positive attitude, each audition is unique, an audition gives you the opportunity to display your talents. There are however many things you can do when approaching auditions to achieve your best. We look at how you can prepare yourself for the range of auditions.

The sessions are run by professional actors and directors, you will have the chance to analyse text, asses your strengths and weaknesses, and look at ways of preparing yourself for audition and performance.

The course is an excellent opportunity to expand your understanding of yourself as an actor and work with others on various dramatic techniques.

The Actors Class welcome all levels of experience, anyone aged 18 or above thinking of entering the profession or working as an actor already. It is especially suited to anyone thinking of studying acting, applying to a University course or Drama school, or who has just graduated and is starting out. Whether you want to refresh your skills, further your understanding, try and share new ideas or get advice about the industry, The Actors Class is for you.
